Accidents, injuries and first aid
All of our employees are certified in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Members must advise staff of accidents or injuries. In case of an emergency, our staff will make the necessary phone calls to ensure the members safety.
Members taking part in Sports Services activities are not insured in case of accident. Individuals are therefore responsible for securing their own coverage. With the exception of dental care, most expenses related to medical treatment are paid by the Health program of each Canadian province.
Safety
-
Members are encouraged to leave their valuables in a safety deposit box, available free of charge at the client services desks of Montpetit Hall and the Health and Lifestyle Centre, and use a high quality lock. A lost or no-returned key is subject to a $25 replacement fee. The card has a limited life expectancy and it can be activated or deactivated as needed.

Avoid leaving your personal belongings unsupervised.
-
Inform the staff of any suspicious looking activities or individuals in the facilities.
-
Never leave your credit card or any health card as proof of identification.

Know where the emergency exits are located and leave the facility immediately if the alarm sounds.
-
Wearing sandals in the facilities is not allowed except in corridors, swimming pool, martial arts room and change rooms.
All of our facilities are regularly patrolled by both our employees and Protection Services Officers. These employees may be in uniform or dressed casually.
For the protection of our clients, electronic surveillance cameras are used in certain areas of the sport facilities.
Using our facilities
If you are not familiar with the use of any piece of equipment, please ask the attendant on duty for safety guidelines.
The centres can become very busy. We suggest that you spread out your training sessions throughout the day. Cardiovascular equipment and treadmills can be reserved no more than 45 minutes in advance. Furthermore, you cannot book more than two consecutive sessions on one given machine.
Out of courtesy, please wipe off the equipment after use.
For safety reasons, all members must secure weights with collars and may not wear sandals.
To prevent accidents, leave your bags in your locker, and put all pieces of equipment back in their respective areas.
The Manager of Instructional and Fitness / Wellness programs remains responsible for administering the fitness centres.
Montpetit Hall Aquatic Centre – 125 University Street
A bathing suit is required and all swimmers must take a shower prior to entering the water. Children under the age of seven and those who cannot swim must be accompanied in the pool by a member or an adult.
The following equipment is available to members for use free of charge: kick boards, pull buoys, lifejackets and balls.
The use of masks, fins and snorkels is restricted to the designated times.
Saunas (Montpetit Hall) – 125 University Street
It is recommended that people stay in the sauna for a maximum of 5 to 10 minutes.
There is no proof that saunas promote health or that tolerance to high temperatures increases with repeated exposure. People subject to fainting spells or suffering from an irregular heart-beat, palpitations, angina, hypertension or any other cardiovascular disease must avoid the sauna and the whirlpool without prior medical consultation and permission from their doctor.
Avoid using the sauna after strenuous physical exertion. Never enter the sauna or whirlpool alone.
